1. Document any visible damage
Take photos of any roof damage, dents, broken shingles, cracked skylights, or visible solar equipment damage. If you notice broken solar panels, avoid touching any damaged equipment.

What should I do if I think my roof or solar system was damaged by hail?
2. Turn off your system if you have broken panels
If you know you have broken solar panels, go ahead and turn off your system. The shutoff switch will be clearly labeled (with “On” and “Off” or “AC Disconnect”) either in your main breaker panel or on a box mounted next to your inverter. If you do not see broken solar panels, you do not need to turn your system off.
3. Contact Namaste Solar
If solar deinstallation and reinstallation (De/Re) is required, we can provide a proposal for this work. We can also perform a post-storm system inspection if you’re concerned about your system. Though many roofing companies will claim they can deinstall and reinstall your system, you should use Namaste Solar to maintain your warranty and ensure the highest quality work performed.
4. Contact your homeowner’s insurance company
File a claim and schedule an inspection with your insurance adjuster. Let the adjuster know you have a solar system installed on the roof.
5. Hire a local roofing company
If roof repairs or replacement are needed, your roofing contractor should determine whether the solar system must be removed before work can begin.
6. Deinstallation and reinstallation (De/Re)
Before your roof is being replaced, Namaste Solar will come deinstall your system. Your solar equipment will need to be stored on-site during the roof replacement. In most cases, the garage is the best location. Once the roof is replaced, we will reinstall the system.
