Customer Spotlight: Dave W.

Publish Date: August 3rd, 2026

Dave, a landscaper and alpaca farmer in Longmont, installed solar plus battery backup to power his farm, landscaping business, and his home. Dave went solar for three main reasons, “One is redundancy for the farm so that if we have a power outage, we can still get heat. Another one was to go green. And another one was watching our electricity bill go through the roof and knowing that in about 7—10 years, I could see a return on investment.”

This Family is Living an Electric Life

When it comes to going green, Dave and his family are all in. “I purchased an electric truck for the business as my runaround vehicle,” said Dave. “I put a hundred or two hundred miles on it a day. So, being able to charge that at the house overnight is huge. It draws right from the battery.”

While convenience is important to Dave, he’s saving money with his electric truck, too. “It costs me one fifth the amount to run my electric vehicle than it does to run a larger gas- or diesel-powered vehicle,” he shared.

Beyond just the truck, the landscaper has transitioned all his gas power tools to electric. “I was able to get a grant to transition from gas powered tools to electric power tools,” Dave continued. “All of which I can charge here on the property. They sit and charge during the day on solar and they’re ready to go when I need them. It’s a win-win for me across the board being able to transition to electric because it keeps costs down.”

Rising Electricity Rates on His Longmont Farm

For Dave, watching rates continuously go up became hard to reconcile. Living on a five-acre farm, there’s a lot to power. This includes seven electric water heaters that keep the water above freezing for the animals, a pond system with three large pumps, heated chicken coop, and two washers and dryers along with traditional domestic usage.

All this demand adds up. “Our power bill was pushing a thousand a month,” shared Dave. “Now I’m running about $300 or $400 a month. So, $700 a month savings. That’s a huge reason for going solar.”

Reliable Power is a Must Have on the Farm

While the cost savings are making a big difference in the lives of this Longmont family, having reliable power at an establishment this size is essential.

Battery backup gives them peace of mind they can count on. “What’s important about the battery system that Namaste Solar installed for us was that we’re in a situation where I could be out a lot of money if I had a prolonged power outage in the wintertime,” said Dave. “If we lost heating for those seven waterers that we’ve got, it would be thousands of dollars to repair. [Having battery storage] gives that peace of mind that everything’s going to be consistent and working when the power goes down.”

This Longmont property is the home of two businesses and a bustling family life. As a landscaper running a business off this property, reliable power means that his business can run smoothly, no matter the conditions elsewhere. “Having a battery backup system with solar gives me the confidence that I can run my company out of my office,” said Dave.

Going Green Means His Kids are Taken Care Of

Underlying all these reasons for going solar is an innate desire to take care of our Earth, one that Dave has always felt. “I’ve been thinking about [going green] my entire life,” he said. “My education is based in climatology, so I have an understanding of climate systems and what’s going on in our world. I see things heating up and electricity demand increasing. So, offsetting that in any way is helpful.”

And as a father, going solar is an even more impactful decision. “One of the things is trying to leave our kids with a better world,” he added. “Solar production, wind production, all those renewable energy sources are going to overtake depleting fossil fuels. That’s probably 30 to 50 or 60 years from now. My kids are going to be old like me, and I won’t be here, but I’m doing my part.”

Namaste Solar’s Technical Expertise, Experience, and Integrity Stood Out Above the Rest

For Dave, the Namaste Solar difference was felt from day one. “When I first approached Namaste Solar, there was not a lot of pressure at all from the salesperson I reached out to,” he explained. “I can feel it out when there’s that used car salesman type of approach, and I certainly did not get that feeling from it. I’m the same way when I deal with my customers. I do not want them to feel pressured. The important thing when I’m selling is to listen, and I feel like Namaste Solar was listening to me when I was presenting what I needed.”

Dave’s installation was more technical than your standard home solar installation, our technical expertise and experience really set us apart. “Namaste Solar’s technical expertise was something that I could rely on,” he told us. “After we went back and forth and came up with multiple solutions to the problems at hand, I realized that there was the expertise there that I needed.”
