Customer Spotlight: Alan and Cindy

Publish Date: July 20th, 2026

For Namaste Solar customers Alan and Cindy, the environmental benefits were what mattered most when they were evaluating solar energy for their home. While the ability to save money was impactful, their biggest motivation was helping create a better planet for their grandchildren. They installed solar on their home in 2021, and we recently caught up with them to hear how solar has helped them save money and make a difference.

Making a Home in Colorado

Alan and Cindy are long-time Minnesota residents who moved to Colorado in 2021. “We moved to Colorado basically following our son and daughter and also the grandchildren we’re blessed with,” shared Alan. “We’re 900 miles from our previous home in Minnesota. And even though the drive isn’t that long, it’s still too long to be away from family.”

“We just want to be more involved in their lives,” continued Cindy. “Seeing them grow is important. And that happens fast. We didn’t want to miss any of it.”

The Decision: Going Solar to Help the Environment

For Alan and Cindy, their grandchildren’s future colored their decision to go solar. “We did want to make a difference,” said Cindy. “You look at your grandkids and think of their future.”

“I think we both feel that the environmental benefits outweighed everything else,” added Alan. “The cost benefits, the savings, are certainly there. But overall, the environmental impact was what we were aiming for.”

Solar was a way they could have a positive impact in addition to saving money each month. “I think we both believe strongly that working for bettering the common good is important,” shared Alan. “And I know that phrase is thrown around a lot, but I think that’s what it comes down to, is that we’re doing the things we can do in our lifetimes that help the common good, especially with grandkids. But even without grandkids, it would be the same thinking.”

The Cost Savings Were a Benefit, Too

The great thing about going solar is that even if you do it for one reason, you still benefit in other ways. For this couple, saving money with solar was an added benefit. “Our electric bill is basically just the normal service connection fee,” shared Alan. “Beyond that, we don’t pay for our electricity.”

The couple was even able to up their electricity use after getting solar by adding electrification updates; they purchased a plug-in hybrid car, switched to an electric stove, and added a heat pump. “When Namaste Solar estimated the number of solar panels we needed, we went a little bit higher than what we thought we were using currently,” said Alan. “With that production anticipation, we were able to put more electrification into the house. And we’re still putting more power into the grid than we’re using.”

In a world where costs continue to rise, the couple feels peace of mind knowing that their electric bill isn’t one of them. “To know that solar is offsetting our bill really makes a difference,” shared Cindy. “We see changes in all the other bills, so to have that one be stable is a great comfort.”

A Local Family Choosing a Local Solar Partner

Choosing the right partner was a big decision for Alan and Cindy. They wanted a company with experience and expertise who they could count on to be around if any issues arise down the line. By choosing Namaste Solar, they got all that along with an excellent experience from quote to installation.

“When we looked at Namaste Solar, we realized that they were a local company and also a B Corp,” said Alan. “Knowing a little bit about B Corps, we thought that was a good fit for us. And I’ve always thought that local companies were a benefit to both us and the community, so it made sense.”

And when it came down to working with our team, their positive experience reinforced their choice. “We had a great experience with them,” shared Cindy. “They listened to us. They showed us what it would look like on our roof, which really helped. They talked about following up. If we had any problems, they were available.”

“From day one when we contacted them just for general information to follow-up quotes and looking at what the needs would be, they were excellent through the whole process,” Alan added. “I could tell they were very professional and had the expertise that we needed to feel confident in them.”

When it came to installation day, Alan and Cindy could relax because our crews put them at ease. “They made us feel really comfortable too when the crew was here working,” shared Cindy.

“The people that were here on the ground working had excellent communication. It was really outstanding,” added Alan. “I could tell they were enjoying their work too. I think that stood out.”

In any relationship, communication can be the thing that makes or breaks it. And when it comes to how Namaste Solar communicated with them, Alan and Cindy were blown away. “When we reached out to them, we would hear back,” shard Cindy. “They would answer our questions. They were concerned that we were happy. So, it came through in how they responded to us.”

Going Solar in Retirement

Both Alan and Cindy are retired, which means that it’s more important than ever for them to have reliability in their expenses. “Since we’re both retired, it’s really nice to know that solar is taking care of our whole electricity bill for us,” said Cindy.
