Killington – Ferrisburgh
PROJECT DETAILS
Developed as one of four projects in a joint portfolio, the Ferrisburgh, VT solar farm was built to provide clean, solar energy to Killington Ski Resort, the Beast of the East and one of Vermont’s largest ski resorts. Namaste Solar was hired to develop this project from the ground up by first identifying the landowner and then collaborating with engineers, archeologists, biologists, land abutters, and municipal representatives to obtain the Certificate of Public Good and green light the project. Working in partnership with Onyx Renewable Partners as the long-term owner of the project, Namaste Solar also played the role of the EPC (engineering, procurement, and construction) and holds the operations & maintenance (O&M) contract to maintain the system. The project was commissioned during the summer of 2017.
The solar farm makes use of otherwise unusable land that due to notably compacted clay underneath the topsoil. The remainder of the property not taken up with solar modules will continue to be harvested for hay by a nearby farmer. Agricultural-type deer fencing was used to secure the solar farm and maintain a farm-like scene that fits with the local vernacular of the area. Trees were also planted to screen views from neighbors and nearby traffic.
