LOCATION

For most homes, the least obtrusive and most cost effective solution is to mount solar PV panels flush against the roof's surface. This requires a sufficiently large, clear area that is not shaded by any obstacles between the hours of at least 9am and 3pm throughout the year. The issues of shading and roof orientation will be covered in later questions on this form.

If your roof is an unsuitable location, we may be able to install an array on the ground near your home. This can be done with either pole top mounting (for small to medium sized arrays) or a ground mount system (for larger arrays). Again, the location of the array must be free of any shading during the middle hours of the day. One factor to consider with ground-mounted options is the soil type on your property. These mounting structures are typically installed by drilling holes four to six feet deep, which is not always possible in the rocky conditions of the foothills. In this case, large concrete blocks (for pole tops) or concrete pads (for ground mounts) can often be used instead.
